Blessing of the Hunt

THE BLESSING OF THE HUNT is a tradition that began in the Middle Ages and
has been held at St. John's Church for many years.   On Thanksgiving, after
the 10:00 a.m. service, the entire Green Spring Valley Hounds will assemble
in the field across the road from the Church to receive a blessing of
horses, hounds and riders and to pray for a safe and successful hunt.
During the cooler months of the year, the GSVH hunts several times a week in
the areas around St. John's Church. Members of the foxhunt are very active
in preserving open land in Baltimore County.
